I am a bit behind in this post, but had to write about it. At Kaitlyn's birthday celebration on January 19th with the family we had some great moments! Wow! I can't believe how everyone is growing so quickly. Nina is getting married, Kaitlyn is taller than I am and is so grown up, and so is Willow (even though she and Charity couldn't make it tht day). Of course the wee ones (the boys) are growing, too. We visited, while munching on snacks and a hamburger dinner. We played with the boys on the floor and it's so interesting to see their size difference. Later, after Mom and Dad left to go square dance,(yes, that's what the pink outfits are in the pics), Brayden went down for a nap, Aedyn went in a swing borrowed from Aunt Jen, and the rest of played Cranium and the ne Pictionary. We had a blast!

Aedyn's First Solid Food

This is Aedyn's first time eating solid food, rice cereal!

Aedyn Eating Solid Food for the 1st time!

Aedyn's sad face. Don't worry it didn't last for long!

After our visit last Thursday with the doctor for Aedyn's checkup,he talked to us about starting Aedyn on solid food. So we began right away Friday night when Shane got home. (Of course after giving me some beautiful purple tulips, just because) So we mixed 2 ounces of formula with some rice cereal so it ended up being a soupy texture. The doc said to gradually increase the thickness so Aedyn could get used to swallowing without choking.

Aedyn's first reaction to the cereal was quite funny, the texture and taste must have been foreign to him. He did end up eating about half of the cereal. He got a couple of good bites in there, where he opened up and actually swallowed without thrusting out all the food.
His next bowl was a little better he was getting used to the texture and swallowing. We actually went to the store to get the rice ceral with bananas, he likes this a lot!!! By Sunday night he was finishing all of his 2 ounces and asking for more. Sometimes he gets fussy because Mommy can get the spoon in his mouth fast enough!

Actually last night,Monday, he had his thickest cereal yet and he finished it all!! It was funny, he was getting tired of Mommy so Daddy had to help with the last bowl and Aedyn couldn't stop smiling at Daddy,(Aedyn loves his Daddy). But towards the end he was getting fussy so Daddy was saying AHHHH for encouragement(or singing, because we sing everything in our house), but the tone Shane used must of had a vibration that Aedyn didn't like so he got upset and pulled out the quivering sad lip. What was funny is as soon as Shane stopped Aedyn was fine,so we had to capture "the lip" on camera.

Next Saturday, we will start Aedyn on other fruits and veggies, one at a time for 3 days each! Our little boy is growing so quickly!

Aedyn and Brayden

Exhausted from playing, Aedyn fell asleep in his Activity Center!
Shane took and loves this pic of our sleeping prince!
Surprise! He is becoming more aware of all his surroundings everyday!
Look, a future concert pianist! Chopin watch out!
I love his smerks, he was all smiles and giggles, then he saw the camera and became mesmerized!

As promised this is an update on Aedyn and how fast he is growing and learning! We went to the doc's office yesterday, in the rain(it has been raining for the last couple of days, beautiful but wet). Shane came home early so we could all go together, and we had to feed him really quick before we went. Lucky Shane, as we waited in the doc's waiting area reading books, Aedyn blessed Shane over and over again with his magic spit! It's funny because Aedyn had hardly spit up all day,and then he decided to share as soon as Daddy got home. It was also because Aedyn was cranky, he was about to take a nap before we took him to his appointment!

So we got to the room the nurse checked his temp., measured his head, which is 16 3/4 "(his brain is growing), measured his length, he is now a whopping 25 1/4" long (he's over 2 feet tall)! Then the fun started, we undressed Aedyn to his nakedness to get weighed and he lay still as the nurse told us he is now a huge 17 lbs and 3 oz! And then before Mommy could get his diaper back on he peed everywhere, he even got it in his ear! That's good aim! Well, as we waited for the doc to come in Aedyn got so cranky the entire office could hear him wail, a nd as he got more upset he spit up all over again, so he got hungry and we hadto feed him again to soothe him. Finally the doctor came in, and Aedyn was a very good boy. Mommy held him while the doctor checked his ears, eyes, breathing, chest and lungs! Then, the doc checked his bones and movement, his diaper area, how well he stands on two feet, etc. He is in perfect health!! Hooray! So we talked to the doc. about solid foods. He said to start with thinned rice cereal with formula, and thickening it for about a week, so he gets used to eating and thrusting his tongue in the right direction. He then said to start on veggies. Try 1 veggie for 3 days, then move on to another one.,mainly to check for allergies. After that he suggested moving on to fruit! I think this part is so exciting. Watching him experience solid food for the first time will be hilarious. The camera will definitely be rolling. We are going to probably start this weekend, so Shane can participate in his first bites!

Of course, Aedyn got his second set of immunizations, but not until after Daddy talked to the doctor about his issues of acid reflux and a sore shoulder. Hey, a two for one appointment you can't beat it, I tried to think up something for me just to get it all done in one shot! HAHA! The whole time Shane and the doctor were speaking Aedyn just sat on my lap staring at the doc. He is so observant and social! He even gave the doc a smile! Then the needles cames! I made Shane hold Aedyn while the nurse gave him 4 shots, 2 in each thigh! He cried and screamed for about a minute then he was fine. we packed him up in the carseat(which he is almost too big for), and there he slept (in his carseat, but in his room) for another 3 hours, he was exhausted!
Ok, here comes the confession. I have been slowly putting the daycare back together,(probably procrastinating a bit) and am opening up the daycare very soon. I should have my first client by this nextweek maybe, but I have this overwhelming selfish desire to not want to share my time with anybody else's children! This is terrible! I have been given the gracious gift (thanks to Shane's hard work and understanding) of spending 4 wonderful months with our son, just us during the day, and I don't want to give that up! It's very weird for me this powerful protection I feel over the relationship I have with my son, and that it might feel tainted if other children are in my house. I have never felt this way,or expected to feel this way, especially because I love being with other children. I love to watch the grow and learn, and I love being a part of that! I have even cried over it. I know I have to do this, because we need the extra income just to pay for the lawyer fees, and I want to contribute, even just a little to take a little financial stress off Shane's mind! The beautiful thing is though I will still be at home with Aedyn.

So, Aedyn is a little lethargic today from the immunizations yesterday, so he is taking a long nap. I need to take advantage of that and take a shower.Yikes, no more showers in the middle of the day! I hadn't thought of that before! Plus,I need to finish the closet in the daycare, and vaccuum the house! Well, another update will come about last weekend at Kaitlyn's Birthday with family!

More to Come!

Well Aedyn is now 4 months old, as of Monday the 21st. I can't believe it. He has his 4month checkup today and we shall see how much he has changed and such. I will write more about what has been going on lately and Mr. Chubby Cheeks after our appointment.

Just wanted to tease people who check the blog.

Ok, I added a picture for posterity. It is not recent, but it's cute!

My Sleeping Angel (an impromtu poem)

As the angels whisper to him

He giggles in delight,

Mouth wide open and lips curled up.

Tender cheeks full and dimples so slight.

His little hands grasp at the air.

His eyes twinkling in wonder

As he follows his chubby wiggling fingers.

In amazement his eyes widen

as the melodic sound of a violin fills the air.

Gently he is lulled to sleep,

Fingers in mouth, grinning contently.

Watching him, my eyes moisten with tears

and the pitter patter of happy heartbeats fills my bosom.

True happyness is my sleeping angel.

Can do Fondue!

Playing Loaded Questions
The Raclette Experience! The grill is the black thing in the middle.
Grammy and Aedyn cuddlin'!
Aedyn sitting up by himself!!!!!!!!
Dad and Aedyn getting down to business!

For my mom's birthday we invited her up this weekend for some good eats. My sis and Jon tagged along, too! We decided to feast upon a fondue snack(more like a meal), and a raclette dinner. I made, with Kat's help, a lovely swiss/gruyere cheeses fondue with pumpernickel and bagette bread, apples and pears, and broccoli and cauliflower (which I steamed and they went to mush). But it was a lovely appetizer. We then played a round of Loaded Questions, and then worked together cutting up veggies and meat and cheese for the raclette grill. The raclette grill is so lovely for a wonderful conversational dinner. Everyone grills their own meat and veggies on the top part and melts their cheeses on little trays on the bottom part. It's so fun creating combinations of veggie, meat and cheese to savor; but what's even better is sittings around the table talking and laughing with family! We ended the evening late with several roundsof Scene It Squabble. Which the boys won again!!!

Today, we woke up at 8am when Aedyn woke up and had coffee and cinnamon streusel bread. YUM! Mom, Kat, and Jon left at noon, and Shane worked on school work, I cleaned up a bit, Aedyn ate, slept, and played. We did get some time to play together as a family on the living room floor. These are my favorites moments, the ones I'll store away in my memory and pull out to feel a warm fuzzy!

Unfortunately, we still have to work in the daycare to get it back together. I am procrastinating!Enough blogging for today!

Bouncy Bouncy Zoom!

Growing, Growing,Gone!

Oh My Gosh! Last night Shane decided to hook up our videocamera to the TV so we could watch videos we taken since Aedyn was born. My how he has changed! The very first video we took was of our first trip to Disneyland with Aedyn, Amber and Hugh. There was video over Thanksgiving, bathtime with Grandma and Grandpa Young, another trip to Disneyland with Grammy during Christmas, Mission Inn with Uncle Jon and Aunt Kat, playtime with Popa while he played his new instrument, the concertina, and giggle time with Daddy (with plenty of spit up)!He has GROWN!We think he weighs at least 17 or18lbs. and he barely fits into the 3 month or 3-6 months clothes!

The most exciting thing we caught on video was Aedyn SITTING UP all by himself! This happened on Jan. 3 at about 9 in the morning! He only sat up for a few seconds but he was doing it by himself. We have also been practicing rolling over, from front to back, and backto front. He's trying hard, and he gets really frustrated when he's on his tummy, butHe is able to lift his head 90 degrees and lift up his chest.

Mommy and Aedyn went to Disneyland for a few hours on Wednesday for my Mom's birthday, and although we didn't do much what we did Aedyn loved. We first stopped in at the Tiki Room. Aedyn just stared at the birds and water fountain with huge eyes and didn't make one peep. He then fell asleep during lunch, then we headed over to Small World. Aedyn was fast asleep all the way through the line and getting on the boat. It wasn't until we got to the entrance when the lighting changed and the music started that he opened his eyes big and bright and just stared at EVERYTHING we passed. He didn't miss a thing! It was awesome. The bad part was Daddy had to work so he wasn't there!

Some of Aedyn's favorite things to do and watch:

Watching Daddy do the warbly tongue thrust (you'll have to see it to understand)

Playing pattycake

Singing the songs Itsy Bitsy Spider (while watching Mommy'shands), Row Row Row your Boat and Wheels on the Bus (while doing the motions).

He loves his Good Morning song

Likes to have his feet touched

Loves to watch and have conversations with "the sun" on his Baby Einstein exersaucer

He loves to go bouncy bouncy bouncy Zoom! I posted a video! (and onlyDaddy can get him to laugh when he does this. I've tried and and he likes it, but doesn't laugh. Daddy must have the touch.)

Aedyn loves to dance with Mommy in the kitchen.

Aedyn loves to look at himself in the mirror, any mirror!

Right now Aedyn is in his swing after his morning bottle (have I mentioned that he's sleeping through the night at least 7-8 hours, without being in his carseat) just talking to himself and squealing with delight! He'a such a good baby, but he definitely has his own personality! He is PURE JOY!

Zonked!

Our New Year's Eve Spread
Aedyn crashed on the floor from playtime!

New Year's Eve was very quiet for us. Shane made a spread of meats and cheeses and crackers while we watched movies. Aedyn went to bed for the night around 11pm and we finished watching some movies before the big countdown with Dick Clark! We definitely know our lives have changed when we toasted in the new year with bottles of water!!

As I was just beginning to feel better, Aedyn got sickwith a temp. and congestion. So, New's year's Day was not as quiet as the evening before. Aedyn tried smiling and laughing through his tears. He couldn't help himself, he was feeling miserable, and I think a couple of times Shane and I cried along, too! The doctor said just to take comfort measures; so we lathered him up with baby Vicks, bought a vaporizer to put moisture into the air, sat in a steamy bathroom for 1/2 hour to loosen up congestion, gave him baby tylenol, held him constantly, for he cried when we put him down and stayed the entire day in pajamas! He finally fell asleep around 9 or 10 pm and slept all the way until 5:30 am; poor guy was so tired he barely got any rest all day long. His temp. this morning is way down. He has taken 2 naps already, which is good because the body heals while resting.

So hopefully the next few days will be better, because I need to put the daycare back in order. We had moved everything out and set up the space like a bedroom for Amber and Hugh while they stayed with us. Shane and I were supposed to do it last week after Christmas but I got sick! I have put an ad back in the Pennysaver like always, so let's see what business I can drum up from that. I have decided not to take any infants, and only start out with 2 other children of ages 2 or up. My persepective is totally different from when I had no children of my own. i wonder how this will play out with the parents I interview. We'll see.

Playtime

Aedyn got a new exersaucer from Granny and Popa for Christmas. He's still a bit short, his feet don't touch the bottom. But, he loves all the activities, especially the sun.
